Facing redundancy can be a worrying and uncertain time. However, it can also be an opportunity to retrain, gain recognised qualifications and move into a new career.

If you live in Wales and are facing redundancy, or have recently been made redundant, you may be able to access support through the Welsh Government’s ReAct+ funding scheme.

ReAct+ is designed to help people update their skills, gain new qualifications and improve their chances of returning to work. For anyone considering a career in health and safety, this funding could be a valuable way to gain recognised qualifications and strengthen your CV.

ReAct+ Funding in Wales: Support Towards Health and Safety Training

What is ReAct+ funding?

ReAct+ is a Welsh Government support scheme available through Careers Wales / Working Wales. It provides funding for eligible individuals who need support with retraining or upskilling after redundancy.

The funding can help cover the cost of approved training courses and qualifications that support your personal development and future employment.

Eligible learners may be able to access up to £1,500 towards the cost of training. This funding can be used to support one course or, in some cases, split across more than one course depending on your circumstances and agreed training plan.

Additional support may also be available to help with costs connected to your training, including:

  • Travel to and from training

  • Overnight accommodation, where suitable and necessary

  • Childcare costs while attending training

  • Support with specialist equipment for individuals with a learning difficulty, disability or work-limiting health condition

This support is designed to remove some of the barriers that can stop people from accessing training during a difficult period of change.

Who is ReAct+ for?

ReAct+ is aimed at people living in Wales who are facing redundancy or who have recently been made redundant.

The first step is to speak with Careers Wales / Working Wales. An adviser will talk through your circumstances, your career goals, your current skills and the training that may help you move forward.

They will also support you with the funding paperwork and explain what happens next.

Why consider health and safety training?

Health and safety qualifications are recognised across many industries and can open doors into a wide range of roles. Whether you are looking to move into a dedicated health and safety career, progress into management, or strengthen your existing experience, the right qualification can make a real difference.

Health and safety knowledge is valued across sectors such as:

  • Construction

  • Manufacturing

  • Warehousing and logistics

  • Care homes

  • Schools

  • Retail

  • Facilities management

  • Processing factories

  • Engineering
